Sample Lottery Scam Email:
Sachsen Lotto-GmbH

2 years later and the scammers are still sending out  the German "Sachsen Lotto-GmbH" lottery scam act.  Oddly, they stick to using the name "Mr.Gray Armstrong", but they have learned how to use a spell checker. Below is another actual scam email.  Note some of the obvious clues that is is a scam, highlighted below, that it is a scam:

  • No lottery EVER contacts winners: winners MUST contact the lottery first.

  • the return email addresses are free Hotmail email accounts, not a lottery company email address.

  • The recipient "won" without buying a ticket (by definition, no legal lottery may operate this way)

  • Why would a German lottery have an office in London? Especially since they claim they do not sell tickets there (or anywhere).

  • the winner was selected from a "computer ballot system" (there is no such thing)

  • The money is part of a promotion, but no one's ever heard of it.  It must be the world's worst promotion.

  • "For security reasons" you're not allowed to talk to anyone about it (especially the police or consumerfraudreporting.org!) - which ought to be odd since lotteries thrive on publicity!

  • No consistency: of contact information, multiple names, and email addresses

  • There is no such thing as "hardcover insurance" policies.
