If you receive an email from the MICROSOFT MEGA JACKPOT LOTTO and/or Freelotto.com claiming you won a prize, it is a scam - no matter what amount it says, or what names or addresses they use! Let's get one simple fact straight right now: Microsoft does not and never will sponsor any lottery or sweepstakes of ANY kind. Period. End of story.
Below is another example of this fake lotto / sweepstakes / promotion; this one claiming to be from the "MICROSOFT MEGA JACKPOT LOTTO" which they say is sponsored by Microsoft in the United Kingdom with a contact address in West Africa using a free Yahoo email address in Italy with a website belonging to freelotto.com. If that nonsense doesn't make it clear that it is a scam.....
Note the usual clues to an obvious fraud that we have highlighted in the letter. Especially notice the free Yahoo email return address. Doesn't it make sense that Microsoft would notify winners of a lottery it sponsors, via a competitor's email system? And if that isn't an obvious enough sign for you, since when does Microsoft operate a lottery?
