Grey Marketing Team Job Scam

Do you have a resume posted online? Did you receive an email from Grey Marketing Team promising a high paying job?  instead of a job, you may just be getting a credit card fraud.

Here's how this scam works: A "recruiter" or "executive" from a company called Grey Marketing (not to be confused with a legitimate company name Grey Direct Marketing, whose name they are clearly trying to use) may e-mail about a great position for which they feel you are qualified.

The offer may seem just a little too good.  The scammer is trying appeal to you but also trying not to appear to be absurd. But if you look for these telltale warning signs, you'll be able to respond properly:

  • The offer seems unbelievably good, like doubling your salary,
  • Key information is missing, such as location of the job, contact phone number (what company EVER only allows response by email?  Scammers, of course!)
  • And key information is present, that normally isn't, like a specific salary (again,, what company ever makes an offer before they have even interviewed a candidate?)
  • Little information about the company is present via a Google search;
  • And the usual scammer's poor grammar and spelling

Also, some of the names that the "Grey Marketing Team" scammers have used are Vonda Dixon and Jeff Deery.  Remember, they can always make up a new name, so if they name is different, that does not mean it is not  a scam.

According to a number of sources, what they are really doing is gathering your personal identity information and they applying for credit cards in your name to collect the commissions.  Of course, they could also be doing much worse, such as selling your information to criminals!

Here are two actual sample letters they've sent out.  Yours may be similar, with a different salary, job, job title and name.


Dear [Your name],

I have recently viewed your resume online and feel you may be qualified for our Chief Operations Officer (COO) position. We are Grey Marketing Team, a national management and marketing firm. We assist companies in maximizing their marketing dollars by developing advertising, sales, and marketing campaigns.

We are currently seeking a COO to oversee the day to day operations of our local office. You would not have to relocate. The COO's responsibilities would include the following:

Oversee Tech Department
Oversee Accounting Department
Oversee all administrative Functions
Report Directly to the President

We offer the following:

Starting Salary of $155,000
Quarterly and annual bonuses
Top benefits package including medical, dental, 401k, tuition re-imbursement, paid vacation and holidays, and paid holidays Rapid advancement opportunities

We are currently seeking an Assistant Financial Analyst to help our Senior Marketing staff evaluate proposals for our clients. An Assistant Financial Analyst's responsibilities would include the following:

Evaluating results of ongoing media campaigns
Analyzing profitability of proposals
Generating Client's potential profitability

This position offers direct hands on experience working with clients. We offer the following:
