Celebrity Scams

Is that email really from your favorite TV or movie star, Sports hero or other celebrity?

Famous people, like movie stars and sports figures have more to deal with than just the paparazzi and stalker fans: scammers make them their target or use their name and images without the celebrity's permission, to spread scams!

The Oprah Winfrey Show was a target of a scam that began circulating in March 2009. See below for links to more information about this and other celebrity scams.

Consumers always need to be skeptical of any unsolicited emails. Do not open unsolicited e-mails or click on any embedded links, as they may contain viruses or malware. And providing your personal information can compromise your identity and lead to identity theft or your bank account being cleaned out.

If you receive unsolicited emails, like the Orpah Winfrey scma, file a complaint at www.ic3.gov.
